5083 Aluminum Marine Grade Seamless Tube Pipe O/H112
5083 aluminum alloy is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant aluminum-magnesium alloy belonging to the 5xxx series. It is widely used in high-strength and corrosion-resistant occasions such as ships, automobiles, aviation, and pressure vessels due to its excellent mechanical properties and good weldability.
1. What is 5083 aluminum alloy?
The main component of 5083 aluminum alloy is magnesium (Mg), which is usually between 4.0% and 4.9%, and also contains a small amount of manganese (Mn) and chromium (Cr). This alloy has the following characteristics:
Excellent corrosion resistance: especially resistant to seawater and industrial atmospheric corrosion
Higher strength: It is a non-heat-treatable alloy with higher strength among aluminum alloys
Good welding performance: suitable for welded structural parts such as hulls and oil tanks
Medium processing performance: suitable for cold processing and medium-strength structural parts
2. How is 5083 seamless aluminum tube made?
5083 aluminum alloy seamless tube is often made by hot extrusion or forging. The general process is as follows:
1. Billet preparation
Forge or saw the 5083 aluminum ingot into a cylindrical billet suitable for extrusion.
2. Homogenization (optional)
In order to eliminate internal stress and improve the organizational structure, the aluminum ingot may first undergo a high-temperature homogenization treatment.
3. Heating
The aluminum billet is heated to a certain temperature (about 400~500℃) to soften the material for extrusion.
4. Hot extrusion molding
The aluminum billet is pressed into a mold with a mandrel at high temperature through an extruder to extrude a hollow, weld-free pipe. This step can obtain a seamless pipe of nearly finished size.
5. Cooling and drawing (optional)
After cooling, the extruded pipe can be finished by cold drawing to improve dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
6. Heat treatment and straightening
Some products may undergo aging treatment to enhance mechanical properties and straightening treatment to ensure that the pipe is flat and straight.
