Key Difference of Temper H114 vs H116

Both tempers offer equivalent mechanical properties for 5083. The distinction lies in corrosion performance:

  • H114 — Standard tread plate temper. Suitable for general industrial and structural flooring applications.

  • H116 — Marine-grade temper. Produced with controlled final cold work and subjected to mandatory intergranular and exfoliation corrosion testing per ASTM B928 / EN 485-2. Required by marine classification societies (DNV GL, ABS, LR, BV, CCS) for hull structures, decks, and exposed marine components.

For any application involving prolonged saltwater exposure or requiring class certification, 5083-H116 is the correct specification.
