5052-O Aluminum seamless drawn tube AMS 4070
The 5052-O seamless drawn tube is an aerospace aluminum tubing product made as per AMS4070 standard. Aluminum Alloy 5052 in O (annealed) temper, belonging to the Al-Mg alloy system, as a non-heat-treatable alloy, offering an good balance of formability, corrosion resistance, and weldability. Its mechanical properties are achieved through cold working and controlled annealing rather than precipitation hardening, and 5052 O aluminum tube are specifically designed for aerospace, marine, and industrial applications

5052 O aluminum tube Machining and Welding
5052-O aluminum is widely recognized for its excellent formability and weldability. In seamless tube applications, it is considered one of the most workable aluminum alloys available. The fully annealed O temper provides maximum ductility, making the material especially suitable for complex forming operations.
Because of its soft and highly ductile condition, 5052-O tubing can withstand tight-radius bending, flaring, and flanging with minimal risk of cracking or surface deformation. These characteristics make it ideal for fluid transfer lines and routing systems installed in confined or complex aerospace structures.
The alloy also offers very good welding performance. Both TIG and MIG welding processes can produce clean and reliable joints with limited degradation in the heat-affected zone. For improved weld strength and corrosion resistance, ER5356 filler alloy is commonly recommended.
Another major advantage of 5052-O aluminum is its excellent corrosion resistance. The alloy performs particularly well in saltwater and marine environments due to its magnesium-chromium composition and the absence of copper, which helps reduce susceptibility to corrosion.
Compared with harder aluminum tempers, machinability is relatively limited in the O condition. The soft material tends to become gummy during cutting operations, which may affect surface finish and tool life. For applications involving extensive machining, cold-worked tempers are often preferred.
Unlike heat-treatable aluminum alloys such as 6061 Aluminum Alloy or 7075 Aluminum Alloy, 5052 cannot gain strength through heat treatment. Its strength can only be increased through cold working processes. As a result, the O temper is generally selected for applications where maximum formability and ease of fabrication are the primary requirements.
