Copper Nickel Round Bar C70600 C71500
Copper Nickel Bar is a high-performance copper alloy bar containing nickel as the primary alloying element. The two most common grades are C70600 (90/10 Copper Nickel) and C71500 (70/30 Copper Nickel), both developed for demanding marine and industrial applications. Compared with pure copper, Copper Nickel Bars provide excellent resistance to seawater, chloride corrosion, erosion, and marine biofouling while maintaining good thermal conductivity, weldability, and machinability.
Copper Nickel Bars are widely machined into shafts, valve bodies, valve stems, pump components, flanges, fittings, fasteners, and other precision parts requiring long-term corrosion resistance. They are extensively used in shipbuilding, offshore platforms, seawater piping systems, condensers, heat exchangers, desalination plants, and power generation equipment.
C71500 C70600 Copper Nickel Chemical Composition
| Grade | Copper (Cu) | Nickel (Ni) | Iron (Fe) | Manganese (Mn) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| C70600 / C706 | Balance (~88–90%) | ~9–11% | ~1.0–1.8% | ~1% max | Commonly known as 90/10 Copper Nickel |
| C71500 / C715 | Balance (~68–71%) | ~29–33% | ~0.4–1.0% | ~1% max | Commonly known as 70/30 Copper Nickel |
The international designations “90/10” and “70/30” Copper Nickel are named according to the approximate copper-to-nickel ratio in the alloy. For example, “90/10 Copper Nickel” means the alloy contains approximately 90% copper and 10% nickel. However, the actual composition is not exactly limited to these two elements, as small amounts of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) are also typically added to improve corrosion resistance, erosion resistance, and overall seawater performance.

C70600 vs C71500 Copper Nickel Bar
C70600 (90/10 Copper Nickel) is the most economical and widely used copper nickel alloy for general seawater service. It is recommended for commercial vessels, seawater cooling systems, low-pressure piping, standard shafts, fasteners, and other components operating in relatively clean, low-velocity seawater. C70600 provides an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and cost, making it the preferred choice for most marine applications.
C71500 (70/30 Copper Nickel) contains a higher nickel content, providing greater mechanical strength and superior resistance to erosion-corrosion, chloride attack, stagnant seawater, and high-temperature brine. It is commonly specified for high-velocity seawater systems, offshore oil and gas platforms, naval vessels, desalination plants, and other critical components requiring maximum durability in aggressive marine environments.
